Coaching - The Art of the Next Doable Step

· Educators and Leaders,Reading Workshop

There are two important elements when coaching learners, readers, writers, educators, peers, and just about anyone.

Rule #1 - Name a positive and deliver a genuine compliment.

Everyone is doing something right.  Name it for them.  People can be very hard on themselves, especially if they are a perfectionist.  Always name something they are doing well.  You will be surprised at how much that compliment is appreciated.

Rule #2 - Give them one piece of advice on the "Next Doable Step."

Spend some time thinking about the one thing they can implement that is a logical next step or a challenge they are ready to tackle.  You get incredible growth from incremental steps, taken consistently over a period of time.  You might offer an example, strategy or exemplar to give a clear picture.

That's it.  The secret recipe.

Genuine Compliment + Coaching for Next Doable Step = Growth & Improvement

Give it a try and drop us a line to share your stories!

Happy Coaching,

Kristy
